Battery Packaging Impact on Vehicle Integration

with Helen Ali from Polestar

We all know that Electric Vehicles and traditional ICE Technologies impose different vehicle requirements and designs

One striking example is the presence of a frunk (=small additional trunk on the front) of some EVs. Another less obvious example is the impact of the Battery cooling strategy onto the underbody aerodynamic of the car (see Ask a Nerd Ep 4)

But have you ever thought about the vehicle integration challenges of an EV❓What do the Battery and the simplification of the PowerTrain enable on the interior design but also the reciprocal: what constrains are added by the Electrical components?

For example, how do you maintain an easy access to the Eectronics of the Battery or even simple things like where do you store the charging cables?

In this Episode, we talked to Helen Ali, Principal Engineer at Polestar with an impressive expertise in vehicle integration based on her experience at NIO and Jaguar Land Rover

In this Episode, you will learn about:

▪️Vehicle Integration Challenges in EVs compared to traditional ICEs
▪️The new trend opportunity with “Frunk” but what challenges it brings…
▪️How car manufacturers adapt their interiors for Electric Vehicles and why it is important to keep some functionalities similar to ICEs
▪️Future trends including Battery Swapping, development of HyperCars, etc.

Ask a Nerd is a Series of PodCast webinar talking about EV Technologies. You can find a new Episode each 2 weeks on YouTube host by Dr Cecile Pera and Tom Brimble from GreenPlates ZEV
