EDU - Electric Drive Unit

with Matt Bloomfield from Lotus

Electric Drive Unit (EDU) consists of 3 main components: the Electric Motor ⚡️, the Inverter/Power Electronics and the transmission

The EDU is much more challenging to develop than just assembling a high performance version of each of these components because 2 independent elements are not necessarily working together in the best way

It is not always easy to understand the various choices made by car manufacturers on the EDU:
▪️Synchronous and asynchronous machines
▪️Cooling strategy
▪️Single or 2-speed transmission (Taycan)
▪️SiC or Si Inverter
...

In this Episode, you will find:
🎓 An explanation of the different EDU functions
⭐️ Analysis of some EDU architectures: the AUDI e-etron, Tesla Model 3 and the Porsche Taycan...)
⚡️A technical description of the Lotus Evija eMotor and EDU
🔌 A discussion on current and Future EV trends on eMotors and Inverters
